Good Day, Beautiful People!
This is the coldest and wettest Australia Day in history. Most people still brave the weather to various location to celebrate the day. For most Aussies will be watching Australia Open, Cricket Live, barbecue, beer, outdoor activities, family and friends.
“Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi, Oi, Oi!” That is what we shout to chant or cheer someone on especially in the sports arena or any competitions.
Individual: “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!”
Crowd: “Oi! Oi! Oi!”
Individual: “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!”
Crowd: “Oi! Oi! Oi!”Individual: “Aussie!”
Crowd: “Oi!”Individual: “Aussie!”
Crowd: “Oi!”
Individual (faster): “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!”
Crowd (equally fast): “Oi! Oi! Oi!”
So blessed to live in this easy-going, sunburnt, sports and fun loving country. It is also known as Southland of The Holy Spirit. Hard to believe that British government used to send their convicts here to do their time during late 18th and 19th centuries. Over 80 years, more than 165,000 convicts were transported to Australia. Australia, you have grown and become such a wonderful country.
Southland Of The Holy Spirit – An Honour Bestowed On No Other Nation
In the year 1606 Capt. Pedro Fernandez de Quiros gave this continent the name “Australia del Espiritu Santo” or literally “Southland of the Holy Spirit”. In the Bible Hebrew names not only indicate character but also happenings and even the destiny of those granted that name. What does this suggest for the destiny of Australia? No other nation on earth has been blessed with the title “South Land of the Holy Spirit”!
The Spanish Captain Pedro Fernandez de Quiros, standing in Tahiti, spoke of the destiny of Australia almost a hundred years before it was claimed by Captain Cook.
Here, in part, is the text of the prophecy or actual proclamation:
“Let the heavens, the earth, the waters with all their creatures and all those present witness that I, Captain Pedro Fernandez de Quiros… in the name of Jesus Christ… hoist this emblem of the Holy Cross on which His person was crucified and whereon He gave His life for the ransom and remedy of all the human race… on this day of Pentecost, 1606… I take possession of all this part of the South as far as the pole, in the name of Jesus… which from now on shall be called the Southern Land of the Holy Ghost (La Australia del Espiritu Santo)… and this always and forever… and to the end that to all natives, in all the said lands, the holy and sacred evangel may be preached zealously and openly.”
God already knew that Australia would be greatly used as a springboard for spreading the Gospel to other nations, in His time. Isn’t that just fascinating.
Sharing with you one of my favourite old songs!
The Great Southland by Hillsong Music Australia
Verse 1:
This is our nation, this is our land,
This is our future, this is our hope.
A land of reaping, a land of harvest,
This is our land, this is our home.
Chorus:
This is the Great Southland of the Holy Spirit,
A land of red dust plains and summer rains,
To this sun-burnt land we will see a flood,
And to this Great Southland His Spirit comes.
Verse 2:
This is our nation, this is our land,
This land of plenty, this land of hope.
The richest harvest is in her peoples,
We see revival, His Spirit comes. [to chorus]
Verse 3:
This is our nation, this is our land,
This lucky country, of dreams gone dry,
And to these people we see a harvest,
And to this land, revival comes. [to chorus]
